MEET OUR LECTURERS

AIM

This course is aimed for people with no experience in voiceover work, or for people who may come from a related background such as performing arts or community radio.

The course is about preparing you to gain the skills required for a commercial voiceover artist and to get regular work in the industry.

AIM

To produce creative radio professionals capable of multi-skilled employment in the radio industry. In a supportive and challenging learning environment, the course will prepare professionals for their future careers in radio.

The course is specifically designed to meet the needs of the Australian radio industry, with emphasis on the commercial and national broadcasting industry segments.

The curriculum combines practical skills development with theoretical information that equips students with a thorough understanding of the place of radio in the contemporary media business environment.

Students will also have the opportunity of work attachment in working radio stations and to experience a major live broadcast simulation during the course.

By the end of the course, students will be comfortable with the operational aspects of their craft and able to adapt their skills to any working environment.

OUTCOMES

On completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Prepare and present live and automated on-air shifts.
  • Produce, edit and mix recorded content for broadcast.
  • Program music rotation software and schedule logs using music scheduling software.
  • Research, prepare and present interviews and news.
  • Write, voice and produce broadcast quality promos and commercials.
  • Prospect, pitch and sell radio and online advertising.
  • Understand and use online broadcast tools to deliver radio content on the internet.
  • Use social media to enhance their professional profile and build audience.
  • Describe station programming and management policy based on audience demographics.
  • Understand the role of radio in a fast changing global communication environment.
  • Develop a career plan for employment in the radio industry.

DELIVERY

This course is offered in two different formats:

The night format runs Mon & Tues 5:30-9:30pm for 20 weeks. Intakes are usually May & October each year.

The day format runs Mon & Tues 8am – 2pm for 20 weeks. Intakes are usually February & July each year.

Please note: Despite the difference in hours, the course content is exactly the same. The day format  is run at a slightly slower pace and allows for some of the additional activities to be completed within the class hours.

Intro to Radio serves as the precursor to our Advanced Radio Course. It’s a fun, fast course where you will get loads of hands-on experience, and you’ll get to see if radio is really for you.

Plus, if you take RTI’s Intro to Radio Course, and decide you’d like to take it further, we’ll give you a discount for our Advanced Radio Course equal to the cost of the Intro to Radio Course!

The Intro to Radio course is designed for people who want to get a feel for radio as an industry, to see if a career in radio is right for you. If you’re already certain on a career in radio, our Advanced Radio Course will be a better fit for you.

INTRO TO RADIO - FOR TEENS

AIM

Intro to Radio For Teens is a new short course for high-school aged young people.

This course is hands on and a lot of fun, providing you with the opportunity to enjoy learning about radio and explore the possibility of it becoming your career path.

If, after you’ve done Intro to Radio for Teens, you decide radio is for you and you’d like to learn in more depth, you’ll receive a 10% discount on our Advanced Radio Course.

This course will provide students with a comprehensive set of creative and technical skills to create a professional sounding podcast. 

COURSE CONTENT

The course lecturers are all experienced podcasters and radio professionals who will cover a diverse set of skills, including:

  • Audio Production (mic set up, soundproofing recording and editing)

Over the course units, students will carry out exercises relevant to the unit topic and receive professional feedback throughout the course and beyond.
